The Samajwadi Party had fielded the actor-turned-politician Sanjay Dutt to contest for an MP seat, but the Supreme Court said that his standing for election will set a bad precedent and open the floodgates for more people with criminal records to enter politics. So, it became certain that Munnabhai cannot become an MP.
