"The PM has shown guts of steel to take on such a bold decision. Since 1996 we have known how many times this bill has been tabled, what the problems have been, so I won't go into that. The fact that we have only 15% representation in Lok Sabha and close to 13% in Rajya Sabha is appalling. Because even countries like Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan are way better than India today. So the PM has obviously understood and has championed the cause as he has spoken about this many a times. But walking the talk is totally different. The fact that it is not tokenism and it is a clear-cut opportunity, an opportunity to excel, to be at par, to show that the women of India have arrived," said BJP leader Shaina NC soon after the union cabinet reportedly cleared the Women's Reservation Bill. The bill, drawn up in 2008, has been on freeze since it was passed by the Rajya Sabha in 2010. It was never presented in the lower house.
