Referring to the Global Buddhist Summit held in Delhi last week, Rajiv Mehrotra said the effort to send a message about the values of Buddhism in these times was achieved successfully. "There was also a geopolitical aspect. The Chinese are moving aggressively to usurp Tibetan Buddhism and take ownership of it, independent of Dalai Lama," Mr Mehrotra said. Tibetan spiritual leader, The Dalai Lama, also participated in the Global Buddhist Summit and addressed a group of monks and other delegates who gathered in Delhi for the two-day event. The first-of-its-kind summit began on Thursday last with Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing the inaugural session.
