The National Democratic Alliance has won one of its biggest victories in 20 years, crossing the 200-seat mark in the 243-member Bihar Assembly. With Nitish Kumar set for a fifth term and the NDA outperforming even its 2010 high, the mandate is decisively and overwhelmingly in its favour. Among the biggest winners is Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, whose JD(U) has secured over 80 seats. Chirag Paswan has staged a dramatic comeback—his LJP(RV) winning 22 of the 29 seats it contested. Smaller allies like HAM and RLM have also performed strongly, helping propel the NDA past the 200-seat mark. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, in his first reaction to the party’s poor performance in Bihar, said the Assembly election was “not fair from the beginning” and described the outcome as “surprising”. While thanking voters who supported the Mahagathbandhan, he stressed that the larger battle is to safeguard the Constitution and democracy. Gandhi said the Congress and the INDIA bloc will conduct a deep review of the results. NDTV's Shubh Bhardwaj breaks it down.
