The war over the Lingayat votebank taken centrestage in Battleground Karnataka. Two weeks after the Siddaramaiah government recommended recognising Lingayats a separate religion to the centre - a move designed to end the community's loyalty to the BJP - BJP President Amit Shah has hinted that such a move will not be approved by the centre. Congress President Rahul Gandhi today visited the Siddaganga Mutt in Tumakuru to meet the 111-year-old seer Sri Sri Shivakumar Swamiji and also to reiterate the Congress interest in Lingayats.
