Bareilly Magistrate Resigns Over Magh Mela Incidents, UGC Regulations

Bareilly City Magistrate Alankar Agnihotri has resigned from his post, citing UGC Regulations 2026 and recent incidents at the Prayagraj Magh Mela as the primary reasons. In his resignation letter, Agnihotri said that self-respect and conscience are above position and prestige, stressing that his decision was driven by accountability towards society. He alleged that incidents at the Magh Mela amounted to an insult to saints and oppression of Brahmins, calling the developments in the holy city of Prayagraj a blow to humanity.
