Mumbai Marathon
A star-studded race, the seventh Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon, got underway on Sunday morning amidst tight security and elaborate arrangements.
Over 38,000 people from the city, elsewhere in the country, foreigners, handicapped, senior citizens, students and other groups, raced their way in different categories in the total 42 km long marathon.

John Abraham, and famous athletes Gabriela Szabo, Gail Devers and Hicham El Guerrouj were the brand ambassadors of the event.
The prominent people seen participating at various points included Akshay Kumar, Gul Panag, Rahul Bose, John Abraham, Reitsh Deshmukh, Gulshan Grover. The race started from Chhatrpati Shivaji Terminus and carried its way through the Bandra-Worli Sea Link and back. (NDTV Photo) -
Akshay Kumar, impressed by the seniors on the run, said more than giving them any inspiration, he had come to take inspiration and blessings from them.

Gul Panag ran the marathon attached to Shraddha Charitable Trust which participates in this event every year.

Actors Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao, showed up at the marathon to support the NGO Swayamsiddha.
This year's race course traversed the newly-opened Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link, a 5.6 km stretch over sea which bridges Worli and Bandra. -
Actress Genelia D'Souza also added to the star power at the Mumbai Marathon.
Apart from the main title sponsor Standard Chartered Bank, the associate sponsor is Tata Consultancy Services. The event was held under aegis of the Athletics Federation of India with technical coordination by Maharashtra Athletic Association and promoted by Procam International. (NDTV Photo) -

Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar's daughter Sara also took part in the Dream Run to raise funds for "Apnalaya", an NGO for challenged children with which Tendulkar is deeply involved.

Comedian Raju Srivastav also ran the marathon for his NGO Alert India.
Other celebrities such as, Purab Kohli ran for Society for Nutrition, Education and Health Action (SNEHA) and Tara Sharma for, Cancer Patient Aid Association.
