Police say two people were killed when a helicopter crashed on Wednesday during rush hour in central London after apparently hitting a construction crane on top of a building.

"The top of the crane was actually obscured by fog so I didn't see the impact," Michael Gavin told the BBC. "But I heard a bang and saw the body of the helicopter falling to the ground along with pieces of the crane and then a large plume of smoke afterwards."

Early reports indicated the crane was at St. George's Wharf, a high rise apartment complex with apartments that offer sweeping river and city views.

Police have said they do not suspect any terror angle to the incident. "There's nothing in our world at this stage.
"There's nothing to suggest any terrorism link," a spokesman for London's Counter Terrorism Command said.
A helicopter has crashed during the early morning rush hour.
Traffic has come to a standstill in central London and train services have reportedly been hit.
The crash happened near river Thames.
The crash site is near the Waterloo station.
It crashed near Vauxhall train station, a major commuter station on the south side of central London.
The chopper crashed close to a high security area, near the MI6 (British Military Intelligence) headquarters and the new US embassy.
A large plume of black smoke was seen rising in the area.

Some witnesses reported that a helicopter had collided with a construction crane.
