Auto Expo 2012: Top 5 four-wheelers

The 11th Auto Expo in Delhi has an impressive line-up of hot wheels and some of the meanest machines. Our auto expert Siddharth Vinayak Patankar picks the top 5 cars at the auto extravaganza.

  • The new version of Hyundai's Sonata priced in the range of Rs.16-17 lakh is expected to be launched by February-end. The sedan is powered by a 2.4 litre GDI (gasoline direct injection) petrol engine. Our pick for number five.
  • Automobile major Maruti Suzuki unvieled its new compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) Maruti XA Alpha, termed by the company as "a bold new experiment." Although, the price or the launch date of the XA Alpha, have not been revealed, the company say it focuses on the changing preferences of customers, especially the youth. It stands at number four in our list.
  • Iconic automobile designer Dilip Chabbria launched what is being termed as India's first supercar. DC Design's Avanti was unveiled by Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan. DC Design aims to start manufacturing the car for a limited release by the start of 2013 and is expected to carry a price tag of Rs. 30 lakhs. DC Avanti takes the number three spot on our list.
  • Just when we though the wait would never end, BMW has finally decided to launch the iconic Mini Cooper in India. The Mini Cooper, Cooper S, Mini Cooper Convertible and Mini Cooper S Countryman priced Rs 25 lakh to 32 lakh will now be available in India. The Mini Cooper S takes the second spot on our list.
  • Auto giant Ford has decided to redo its India strategy with some aggressive mareketing and a new product line. Ecosport is the second of eight products slated to be launched in India by the middle of this decade. The company has not disclosed the price of the SUV, but the beautiful beast looks more than ready to rule Indian roads. Ecosport is number one on our list of Top 5 cars in the Auto Expo so far.
