Rajinikanth, Karunanidhi, Prakash Raj at K Balachander's Funeral

Legendary Tamil filmmaker K Balachander was cremated in Chennai on December 24 amid members from film fraternity and thousands of his fans. Mr Balachander's funeral procession, which began at around 2 pm in a flower-bedecked vehicle from his residence, ended at the Besant Nagar crematorium.

Rajinikanth, who referred to Mr Balachander as his "friend, philosopher and guide", came to pay his final respects to the filmmaker.

He was accompanied by his wife Latha Rajinikanth.

DMK chief M Karunanidhi also came to bid adieu to Mr Balachander.

Actor-politician Vijayakanth, who is the leader of Tamil Nadu's DMDK party, was also in attendance.

National Award winning actor Prakash Raj, who is also one of Mr Balachander's many proteges, made it to the funeral.

Actor Sharath Babu, whose breakthrough film Nizhal Nijamagiradhu was directed by Mr Balachander, came to pay his final respects to the late filmmaker.

Director Priyadarshan came at be part of Mr Balachander's final journey.

Actor-filmmaker T Rajendar was in attendance.

Tamil actor Satya Raj was spotted at the funeral.

Tamil actor Jeeva attended Mr Balachander's funeral.

Actor Mansoor Ali Khan was in attendance.

Kolaveri Di music Anirudh was spotted at the funeral.
