IISc Bangalore Tops NIRF India Rankings 2017 In Common Overall Category

NIRF Ranking 2017 For Best Universities in India, IISc Bangalore Tops
New Delhi: NIRF India Rankings 2017 have been announced! The second edition of the domestic ranking was announced by HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar in a press conference at PIB conference hall, Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi. In the conference, ranking of various higher education institutes were declared under five categories: Overall, Colleges, Universities, Management and Engineering. In the NIRF India Rankings 2017, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore has been ranked the top. IISc is also the first Indian institution to make it to the top 10 in a global ranking.

It was in the previous month, IISc was ranked eighth in the Times Higher Education or THE Rankings, 2017 in the "best small universities" category. The list includes California Institute of Technology (Caltech) from the US, Ecole Normale Superieure from France and Pohang University of Science and Technology, South Korea.

Along with IISc, seven Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) have also made it to the list of top 10 educational institutes in the common overall category. Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) have also been placed in the list.

JNU, which was at third position in the NIRF ranking 2016, has been ranked second this year in the 'Universities' category.

IIT-Madras continued to be at the top in the engineering institutions category.

National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) implements overall recommendations of the core committee set up by the ministry to rank institutions across the country. The recommendations are based on the different parameters for ranking universities and institutions. 
The parameters broadly cover 'Teaching, Learning and Resources', 'Research and Professional Practices', 'Graduation Outcomes', 'Outreach and Inclusivity' and 'Perception'.

IIM-Ahmedabad and IIM-Bangalore have switched positions in the top management institute list. Last year the Bangalore institution was placed at the top and IIM-Ahmedabad was second.
