The Census will start in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on October 1, 2026. Counting for the rest of India is set to begin on March 1, 2027. The census will be conducted in two phases: House Listing Operation and Population Enumeration.
