VinFast is not tiptoeing into India - it's preparing for a full-scale entry. With ambitious plans for over 100 dealerships and a clear focus on electric mobility, the Vietnamese brand is developing products that are designed to work in the real world, not just look good on spec sheets. One of the most notable among them is the VinFast MPV 7, an all-electric people mover that we drove at VinFast's Hanoi plant test track ahead of its global debut.

This is expected to be VinFast's first MPV for India, and potentially one of its early launches when the brand officially enters the market on April 15th, 2026. After spending time behind the wheel, it's clear that the MPV 7 is not trying to reinvent the segment - it's trying to execute the fundamentals well. A Clean, Functional Design With Purpose

At 4,740 mm in length and a 2,840 mm wheelbase, the VinFast MPV 7 sits squarely in the large family MPV space. These dimensions immediately translate into interior room, and that's where the car's priorities are obvious.

It's not quick in a way that excites, but it's never underpowered either. Acceleration is linear, predictable, and stress-free - typical EV behaviour, but well-judged here.

Driving Impressions: Comfort First, Always

Driven on VinFast's Hanoi test track, the MPV 7 reveals its character quickly. This is a car engineered for comfort, stability, and ease of use, not driving thrills.

The steering is light and easy, making the vehicle feel manageable despite its size. Feedback is decent for an MPV, and importantly, it never feels vague or nervous. At higher speeds, the car remains planted, though there is noticeable body roll when pushed hard through corners - something that's expected from a tall, family-focused MPV.

Ride quality is tuned on the softer side, which works well for Indian conditions. Over uneven surfaces, the suspension absorbs imperfections without sending sharp shocks into the cabin. The NVH levels are good, with road and wind noise well controlled, reinforcing the MPV's premium intent.

This is not a performance EV - and it doesn't pretend to be one. Instead, it feels consistent, predictable, and easy to live with.

Interior: Space, Comfort, and A Proper Third Row

Step inside, and the MPV 7's strongest card becomes clear: space and seating comfort.

The seats are well-cushioned, supportive, and clearly designed for long hours of use. The second row is comfortable, but it's the third row that stands out. This is not an occasional-use bench - it's an actual usable third row, even for adults. That alone will matter a great deal to larger Indian families.

The cabin design is straightforward and functional. You get a 10.1-inch infotainment screen, a D-cut multifunction steering wheel with tilt and telescopic adjustment, and leatherette upholstery. There are two Type-A and two Type-C USB ports, all windows are auto up/down with anti-pinch, and the layout is intuitive rather than overwhelming.

That said, material quality is mixed. Some areas feel genuinely premium, while others make use of hard plastics, especially lower down. This isn't a deal-breaker, but in a segment where perception matters, VinFast could have done better in a few touchpoints.

Safety and Hardware: Sensible, If Basic

The MPV 7 is barebones in terms of driver assistance tech. There are no ADAS features on offer right now, though the vehicle is ADAS-ready, meaning the hardware architecture allows for future integration.

Standard safety equipment includes ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, ESC, Traction Control, Hill Start Assist, Roll Over Mitigation, all-disc brakes, electronic parking brake with auto hold, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. It's a comprehensive passive and active safety package, even if it lacks headline-grabbing tech.
