Porsche is gearing up to roll out the Cayenne electric in the coming months. The SUV has recently gone through robust testing in real and virtual conditions. The new all-electric SUV is set to be unveiled towards the end of the year and will then be offered alongside the current combustion-engined and hybrid models.

As per reports, the Porsche engineers developed a simulation of the Nurburgring circuit and tested the soon-to-be-launched Porsche Cayenne EV on the test bed. This enabled the engineers not only to visualise the Cayenne virtually, but also to test it directly in a virtual environment. In a development phase in which components are initially available in digital form and can therefore be easily modified, the experts used virtual reality (VR) to perform initial tests of the future SUV generation. The results of the digital tests were later verified with test bench tests of real, physical components.

Stating further, the brand also claimed that a completely new composite test bench was developed for this purpose. It allows the drive, battery, energy management, and charging systems to be tested together under realistic conditions.

While the brand has made significant use of virtual test ground, it didn't rule out the importance of physical testing for the Porsche Cayenne EV. The Porsche Cayenne was taken to test in hot regions such as the Gulf States or Death Valley in the US. The climate control and the thermal management of the battery and drive system, among other things, had to undergo demanding functional tests at temperatures of up to 50 degrees Celsius. Later, it was also tested in Scandinavia, where temperatures reach minus 35 degrees Celsius, cold starts, climate control, traction, handling, and braking behaviour, and performance of the control systems relating to driving dynamics were all on the test programme for the pre-production vehicles.

The Porsche Cayenne EV will be based on the 800-volt PPE platform shared with the Macan Electric and will derive the power from a 108 kWh battery offering up to 600 km WLTP range.
