Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD has unveiled the next-generation Atto 3 at the Beijing Auto Show 2026, significantly expanding the compact SUV's range and charging capability. The model, known as the Yuan Plus in China, now promises up to 630 km of CLTC-rated range and can be charged from 10 to 97 percent in about 9 minutes using BYD's new "Flash Charging" system.

The updated Atto 3 adopts a sharpened front fascia with a sculpted bumper, semi-flush door handles, and redesigned 19-inch alloy wheels, along with a floating-roof graphic at the rear and updated LED tail-lights. An illuminated BYD logo has also been added to the rear fascia, giving the SUV a more premium, modern look.

Stretched to 4,665 mm long, 1,895 mm wide, and 1,675 mm tall, the new Atto 3 is 210 mm longer, 20 mm wider, and 60 mm taller than the current India-spec version, with a 2,770mm wheelbase that is 50 mm longer. BYD claims this translates into a more imposing road presence and improved interior space, including a 750-litre boot and an additional 180-litre frunk.

Inside, the new Atto 3 features a two-spoke steering wheel, a front passenger seat with extra reclining adjustment, and a thermoelectrically heated and cooled storage box. A panoramic glass roof, 256-colour ambient lighting, a 16-speaker premium audio system, and multiple high-speed charging ports, including 50W wireless charging and 60W USB-C, aim to elevate in-cabin comfort and convenience. For the Chinese market, the cabin will also support a LiDAR-assisted automated-driving suite, expanding the model's driver-assistance and safety proposition over the earlier Atto 3.

The new Atto 3 will be offered in China with two battery pack options: 57.54 kWh and 68.54 kWh, both built on the brand's second-generation Blade Battery platform. CLTC-rated range figures stand at 540 km for the smaller pack and up to 630 km for the larger unit, giving customers a broader choice of range and price points.

Each pack drives a rear-mounted electric motor tuned to either 272 hp or 327 hp, marking a shift to a more efficient rear-wheel-drive layout. The powertrain is also wrapped around BYD's Flash Charging technology, which the company says can restore the battery from 10 to 97 percent in roughly 9 minutes under ideal conditions.
