MotoGP fans in India have got fresh hopes after the Uttar Pradesh government inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AVW Global to revive international motorcycle racing at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC). The agreement, signed by the State Transformation Commission, aims to bring MotoGP back, as well as the Asia Road Racing Championship, to the iconic track in Greater Noida.
AVW Global, led by former MotoGP rider Karel Abraham and CEO Amit Sandill, will handle the technical and operational aspects. Drawing from their experience managing the Brno Circuit in Czechia, the company plans to sort out logistics, approvals, and event execution to get BIC race-ready. Abraham believes India is one of the world's largest motorcycle markets, and it deserves world-class racing, stressing that fans will be at the heart of their efforts.

The UP government sees this as a chance to build a lasting motorsport ecosystem, boost youth development, and create a sustainable sporting economy around BIC. The circuit, which impressed during the 2023 Indian GP, already boasts world-class facilities; now it's about making them work long-term.

This comes after some bumps in the road. The 2023 race happened under Fairstreet Sports, but the 2024 slot got cancelled. Dorna Sports, MotoGP's rights holder, then signed a new three-year deal directly with the UP government, restarting the promoter hunt. Liberty Media, the new owners pushing global growth, view India as prime territory given its massive two-wheeler market.
The next step is securing calendar spots and aligning with championship needs. If things click, Greater Noida could host races soon, turning BIC into a northern India hub for events, tourism, and investment. For now, it's a solid step forward, one that has enthusiasts buzzing about bikes returning to the track.
