Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to introduce its first electric SUV in India, the e Vitara. Production has already begun at the company's Gujarat plant, with initial units also being exported to international markets. Styled with inspiration from its ICE sibling, the e Vitara features an electric powertrain available in both FWD and AWD configurations, catering to diverse customer needs. This launch marks a significant milestone for Maruti Suzuki, as the brand steps into the EV segment with its maiden electric SUV offering.

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara will be offered with two battery pack options: a 49 kWh and a 61 kWh unit. The smaller pack will power a single-motor setup driving the front wheels, while the larger pack will support a dual-motor configuration delivering all-wheel drive, branded by Suzuki as AllGrip-e. This flexibility allows customers to choose between efficiency and performance, with the larger battery variant expected to be the more premium option in the lineup.

According to the WLTP test cycle, the e-Vitara with a 61 kWh battery and front-wheel drive delivers the longest range, at 428 km, followed by the all-wheel-drive version at 394 km. The base 49 kWh model offers 344 km. For India, the front-wheel-drive e-Vitara with the larger battery is expected to debut first, offering over 500 km as per ARAI ratings, while the dual-motor variant is likely to arrive later.

Design highlights of the e-Vitara include three-point matrix LED DRLs integrated with the headlights, chunky bumpers finished in piano-black, and 18-inch aerodynamic alloys with a blacked-out look. A sculpted 3D profile and three-point matrix tail lamps complete the styling package, closely resembling the ICE-powered Vitara while adding modern EV-specific touches.

Inside, the e Vitara features ventilated front seats, a 10-way power driver's seat, and flexible rear seating. Safety and convenience highlights include seven airbags, Level-2 ADAS with autonomous functions, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, keyless entry, ride-by-wire technology, and ambient lighting for a premium cabin experience.

On 26 August 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Maruti Suzuki's new manufacturing plant in Hansalpur, Gujarat, alongside Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Japan's Ambassador Keiichi Ono, Suzuki Motor President Toshihiro Suzuki, and other senior executives. The facility is set to become one of the largest automobile manufacturing hubs globally, shaping the brand's future both in India and overseas.

This plant is the first in India dedicated to producing Maruti Suzuki's electric vehicles, as well as Li-ion battery cells and electrodes for strong hybrid models, developed in collaboration with Toshiba, Denso, and Suzuki. Products from the facility, including the e-Vitara, Maruti Suzuki's first battery electric vehicle, will be exported to over 100 countries, underscoring the company's global ambitions in the EV space.
