- Jaguar Land Rover recalls 170,169 US hybrids for critical power loss risk
- Affected models include Range Rover, Land Rover, and Jaguar SUVs from 2019-2024
- Fault originates from a boost control microchip failure in the DC-DC converter
Jaguar Land Rover has issued a massive recall for 1.70 lakh vehicles in the US due to a critical power loss issue for hybrids. If not addressed, the problem increases crash risks. As per the report, if the system fails, the car will display a "Stop Safely Electric Fault Detected" warning before the system loses power.
If the driver continues driving the vehicle despite the alerts, the car will change to neutral, show a gearbox malfunction notification, and gradually come to a halt. Following this, the central display and air conditioning will ultimately turn off, the engine will cease operation, and the vehicle's exterior lights will stop functioning. This situation could heighten the likelihood of a collision.
Recall Details
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the recall, affecting 170,169 SUVs from Jaguar and Land Rover lineups. This includes models like Range Rover Evoque (2020-2023), Range Rover Sport (2019-2024), Range Rover Velar (2021-2024), Range Rover (2020-2024), Land Rover Discovery (2021-2024), Discovery Sport (2020), Defender (2020-2024), Jaguar E-Pace (2021-2022), and F-Pace (2021-2024). The problem stems from a fault in the mild-hybrid system's DC-DC converter.

Root Cause Explained
At the heart of the Jaguar Land Rover power loss recall lies an internal glitch in the boost control microchip within the DC-DC converter. This component manages charging for the 12-volt battery system; when it fails, power to essential functions cuts out abruptly. Drivers might suddenly lose propulsion and exterior lights. Regulators stress that this directly boosts crash probability, prompting swift action.

Safety Implications
Although a recall has not been issued for India. The Indian owners of similar models, often imported or paralleled, should verify via global VIN checks, as Tata Motors-owned JLR coordinates worldwide.
Current Status and Next Steps
As per a Reuters report, Jaguar Land Rover has no fix ready. The brand still needs to find a remedy, which is under development. Interim notices will be mailed by June 12, 2026, alerting owners to risks, with final repair letters to follow.
