Volkswagen has revealed the India-bound Tayron, a seven-seater SUV that will serve as the brand's flagship offering in the domestic market. Positioned above the Tiguan R-Line, the Tayron represents Volkswagen's return to the premium three-row SUV segment, a space it had exited following the discontinuation of the Tiguan Allspace in 2021. With this launch, Volkswagen aims to strengthen its presence in the upper end of the SUV category, catering to customers who seek both practicality and luxury.

The Tayron R-Line is expected to arrive in India roughly a year after its European debut, underscoring Volkswagen's "global-first" strategy for the Indian market. As the most premium seven-seater SUV in the company's line-up, it will likely be locally assembled at Volkswagen's manufacturing facility in Maharashtra. This approach not only highlights the brand's commitment to India but also ensures competitive pricing and quicker availability for buyers.

In terms of design, the Tayron R-Line carries a bold and sporty character. It features aggressive bumpers, distinctive R-Line badging, and stylish 19-inch alloy wheels that enhance its road presence. Built on the MQB EVO platform, which it shares with the Tiguan R-Line, the Tayron distinguishes itself with a longer wheelbase of 2,789 mm, 109 mm more than the Tiguan. This extension allows for the inclusion of a third row of seats, making it a true family-oriented SUV. Safety credentials are equally strong, with the Tayron achieving a 5-star rating in Euro NCAP crash tests.

Practicality is another highlight of the Tayron. With the third row folded, the SUV offers up to 850 litres of boot space, while with all three rows in use, capacity stands at 345 litres. A panoramic sunroof adds to the sense of openness inside the cabin. The interior is equipped with a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system angled towards the driver, integrating all essential functions. Comfort features include leather-upholstered front seats with a massage function. Unlike the Tiguan R-Line, which offered seat heating, the Tayron R-Line provides seat ventilation-an addition particularly suited to Indian conditions. Other premium touches include a digital driver's display, 30-colour ambient lighting, and advanced matrix LED headlamps.

Under the hood, the Tayron R-Line is expected to use the familiar 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine, the same unit found in the Tiguan. This power mill delivers 204 hp and 320 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Power is sent to all four wheels via Volkswagen's AWD system.
