Google has introduced four new features to Google Maps aimed at providing practical support to users during the holiday season. The updates focus on delivering specific information for outings, enhancing location discovery, supporting electric vehicle travel, and enabling privacy-conscious reviews.
A new feature integrates Gemini's artificial intelligence capabilities to deliver "know before you go" tips for locations such as restaurants, hotels, and concert venues. When searching for a place in Google Maps, users can now see summarized insights pinned from public reviews and online data. The information includes guidance on reservations, menu items, and parking logistics, among other details. This service is now being introduced in the United States for Android and iOS users.

The Explore tab on the Google Maps interface has received upgrades to support decision-making around nearby trending locations. Users can view local restaurants, activities, and sights that are currently trending, and gain access to curated lists from third-party sources. These lists are also contributed to by local influencers. This update is available globally across Android and iOS platforms this month.
For those traveling in electric vehicles, Google Maps now estimates charger availability by using AI models that analyze both historic patterns and real-time charger availability. This new predictive function helps users determine if charging spots will be accessible upon arrival, minimizing wait times. The feature is set to launch next week for Android Auto and vehicles equipped with Google built-in, covering charging networks around the world.
Another rollout allows users to leave local business reviews under a nickname and with an optional profile image for added privacy. Despite using a nickname publicly, all reviews remain linked to Google Accounts internally, and automated systems will continue to monitor for suspicious activity. This feature is launching globally across mobile and desktop platforms this month.
