Delhi Police Impounds Mahindra Scorpio For Reckless Driving; Issues Warning On X

Delhi Police arrested 21-year-old Daud Ansari after his Scorpio-N zigzagged on NH-48, with the SUV seized. The police's X post warns of strict consequences for those repeating the offense.

A black Mahindra Scorpio was recently caught on camera driving recklessly along National Highway-48, weaving dangerously across lanes in a manner that alarmed other motorists and pedestrians. The video, which quickly went viral on social media, drew widespread attention and prompted swift action from authorities. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta responded publicly, announcing that an FIR had been registered against the driver. Soon after, Delhi Police confirmed on X that the SUV had been seized and the driver taken into custody, stressing that such behaviour would not be tolerated. The incident has been positioned as a stern warning to others who might attempt similar reckless acts on public roads.

According to reports, the driver was identified as 21-year-old Daud Ansari, a resident of Okhla. Investigations revealed that the SUV was registered under his father, Musafir Ansari's name. Police also seized Daud's driving licence as part of ongoing legal proceedings. The incident itself came to light on January 18, when footage showed a black Scorpio-N zigzagging along the GT Karnal Bypass Road towards Narela, causing panic among commuters.  

In their official statement, Delhi Police noted that after reviewing the video and corroborating evidence, a case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act. These charges reflect the seriousness of endangering public safety through rash and negligent driving.  

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also weighed in on social media, underscoring the importance of accountability and road safety. The combined response from political leadership and law enforcement highlights a growing intolerance for reckless driving in the capital.
