Mahindra Thar is a nameplate that enjoys a strong following in the Indian market. It is loved by the off-road community and even those who just want a rugged car with enough road presence for a feel-good factor. Of course, Thar patrons have always wished to witness the Thar's presence in the Indian Army in a tactical avatar. Happy to report, it is finally happening. The man himself - Anand Mahindra, took it to the social media platform X, sharing the pictures of what is called Mahindra ATV. Showcased at Raksha Triveni Sangam by Mahindra Defence, this is by far the most-tactical version of the Mahindra Thar Roxx.
Developed in collaboration with Prad 4x4 - a Bengaluru-based firm, the Mahindra ATV, manages to showcase the true potential of the Roxx. Taking pride in this creation, Anand Mahindra posted pictures on X, with caption reading, "Presenting the Mahindra ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle). No excess. No ornamentation. Just focussed capability. Every bar, every mount, every inch of clearance has a job to do. From airdrop readiness to mission-grade protection, a gun mount, complete underbody protection, tandem tyre carrier configuration, jerrycan holders, a windshield protector & a front winch ensuring enhanced survivability, versatility, and operational effectiveness across diverse terrains. Purpose-built for our security forces, & proud to serve them But to me, this is more than a specialised machine. This is what our DNA looks like... stripped to its essentials It's a window into what sits at the heart of every Mahindra vehicle: resilience, adaptability, and the will to go anywhere..."
Mahindra ATV Specialities:
Built on the diesel version of the Mahindra Thar Roxx, it gets the familiar 2.2L oil burner, tuned to generate a peak power output of 172 HP and 400 Nm of max torque.
In terms of visual changes, it ditches the metal roof and cabin for a roll cage, and it features metal bumpers on both ends with heavy-duty tow shackles. The rear bumper further gets a tandem tyre carrier and a jerry-can holder.

Prad 4x4 folks further claim that it is airdrop-ready, which indeed is a big claim, if anything. The Mahindra ATV also gets a gun mount, full underbody armour, and blackout lights on both ends.
Besides, it now rides on a set of steelies, shod with RT-grade tyres. They add to the butchness, and also elevate its capabilities. However, a lift-kit would've further enhanced the off-road credentials of this Thar Roxx-based ATV.
