Toyota Hilux is an important nameplate for the Japanese carmaker, and it was long awaiting a generation change, which has finally taken place. The new ninth-generation Toyota Hilux is unveiled. In fact, it takes the stage with not just ICE powertrain choices, but electric powertrain too. Yes, the Hilux know for its capabilities and reliability has finally gone electric. It is also the first-ever body-on-frame EV from Toyota. The company first roll-out the Hilux EV in global market by the end of this year, whereas the ICE trims will start reaching showroom floors by mid-2026.

In its BEV avatar, the 2026 Toyota Hilux gets the same IMV architecture's underpinnings. The battery size is capped at 59.2 kWh with a dual-motor setup, enabling AWD layout. The electric Hilux is rated to produce a peak torque output of 205 Nm at front axle and figure bumps to 268.6 Nm for the rear motor.

The truck boast a maximum towing weight of 1,600 kilograms and a payload capacity of 715 kilograms. Moreover, it gets a range of 240 km. The company is currently tight-lipped about the charging speeds, and how the vehicle will perform with different payloads, as regards to its range.

2026 Toyota Hilux Petrol, Diesel Continue To Exist

The new-gen rendition the Hilux will continue with its legendary 2.8L 4-cylinder turbo-charged diesel engine, which is crowd favourite. In fact, it is loved globally. The 2.7L NA petrol motor will be a part of the options list as well. With the ICE powertrain, the payload capacity stands at 1,000 kg and can tow up to 3,500 kilos. The oil burner will also get the 48V mild-hybrid system.

The design of the new-gen Hilux is more evolutionary than revolutionary. It still has the familiar silhouette with sharped design detailing this time. It looks more modern than butch, this time around. The nose featueres a slim piano-black trim with 'TOYOTA' logo, flanked by slim LED headlamps on both sides. The upright face gets a honeycomb mesh pattern in the bumper (Closed on EV variants), while the chin is accentuated with a large silver scuff plate. There are new 18-inch alloy wheels on the sides. At th rear, there are more creases than ever, and so is the case with the rear fenders. The bumper gets provision for a side step. The new tail lamp design cooler than what we have seen on the outgoing model.

2026 Toyota Hilux: Cabin & Features

A big change on the ninth-gen Toyota Hilux is it bidding goodbye to those archaic interiors. The steering wheel looks bold with a plethora of buttons. Also, it now features two 12.3-inch displays for instrument cluster and infotainment unit. The feature list this comprises a safe exit assist, driver monitoring, 360-degree camera, powered & ventilated seats, wireless phone charger, and more.
