Ducati has unveiled the new DesertX with some prominent changes. The headline change is the introduction of a new 890cc V-twin engine, replacing the older Testastretta unit. This motor is now integrated as a stressed component within a newly designed aluminium monocoque frame, a move that reduces weight and improves rigidity. The result is a more compact machine that still retains the durability needed for long-distance exploration.

The liquid-cooled 90-degree V2 produces 110 hp at 9,000 rpm and 92 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. What makes this engine particularly versatile is its torque delivery - Ducati claims that 70 percent of peak torque is available as early as 3,000 rpm. This ensures steady power at low speeds, which is crucial when navigating steep climbs or technical off-road sections. Another practical update is the adoption of conventional valve springs, extending service intervals to 45,000 km, while oil changes are required only every 15,000 km or two years.

The chassis updates go beyond aesthetics. The monocoque frame now incorporates the airbox, with easier access to filters - a thoughtful touch for riders tackling dusty trails. Suspension duties are handled by KYB components: 46 mm upside-down forks at the front with 230 mm of travel, and a fully adjustable rear monoshock offering 220 mm. Together, they promise improved comfort and traction across varied terrain.

Braking performance comes courtesy of Brembo, with twin 305 mm discs and four-piston calipers up front, paired with a radial master cylinder and redesigned lever for better modulation. The DesertX continues with its 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoked wheels with Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tyres, reinforcing its off-road intent.
