The row over Salman Rushdie not being allowed to appear at the Kolkata Literary Festival has escalated. Mr Rusdie today issued a statement saying he was clearly asked to stay away from the Festival or he would be put on a plane and sent back. He also claimed that the police leaked details of his itinerary to sabotage his visit.
