In a major upset for the Congress in Himachal Pradesh, party candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi lost to BJP's Harsh Mahajan.  BJP claimed victory after cross-voting by six Congress MLAs. This came hours after the BJP claimed that the ruling party lost its majority in Himachal Pradesh. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu alleged that five or six Congress MLAs were taken to Haryana by a convoy of the state's police and the Central Reserve Police Force.  The Congress, which has 40 MLAs in the 68-member Himachal Assembly, was expected to secure a comfortable win for its candidate.
