The Bangalore Political Action Committee is a newly-formed organization - which has the aim of improving the quality of life in Bangalore by getting involved in the political process. The group believes that is largely political failure that is responsible for many of the ways the city has deteriorated. Ahead of Assembly elections due in Karnataka in May, the group encourages citizens to register as voters - and is trying to ensure a healthy turnout of voters on election day itself. Headed by Biocon's Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, the group is reaching out to the urban, educated middle class - a group often ignored by political parties.
