Trump visited the office of the Federal Reserve the first such official trip to the Fed by a sitting president in 20 years seen as an aggressive gesture. The Fed is an independent agency, and Trump has repeated talked about firing Fed chairman Jerome Powell. Trump has repeatedly criticized Fed Chair Jerome Powell for not slashing interest rates further and has even floated the idea of firing him. Officially, Trump's visit to the Fed was to check on building renovations that the White House claims has been mismanaged.
