Vying for villages: 7 tech-firms to tap rural mobile users

Facebook, Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung, Opera, Mediatek, and Qualcomm launch Internet.org to tap rural consumers by offering cheaper access to internet and mobile phones. While the tech firms are being lauded for providing 'greater connectivity', users are still recovering from the NSA surveillance scandal. In the absence of any oversight-mechanism either for state or industry, privacy experts are asking if Indian users will be exposed to even greater data theft.
