More than a month after a 22-year-old woman in Iran, Mahsa Amini, died in police custody after being arrested for not wearing her hijab properly, anti-government protests in Iran have only intensified. One of the biggest days of protests was on Wednesday, where thousands came out on to the streets to mark the 40th day of her death. Iran has seen protests before over a disputed election in 2009 and economic hardship in 2017 and 2019. But these were limited in their scope and participation. What we are seeing today are protests involving people from all sections of society and age groups, and spread far and wide. Will the women's protest force a change in thinking of the Ayatollahs?
