The BJP has rubbished the Congress's allegations that Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from the Lok Sabha using a frivolous and bizarre defamation case after the Congress sought a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) into Hindenburg Research's allegations of fraud against the Adani Group. "First time Rahul Gandhi spoke in parliament on Gautam Adani was on February 7. Within 10 days, a defunct petition lying in court is fast-tracked by the petitioner. He ensures that there is speed in the petition. And on March 23 Mr Gandhi gets convicted," Congress leader Pawan Khera told NDTV. "His remarks in parliament was expunged. Of course subsequently parliament got muted," Mr Khera said. The BJP's Ravi Shankar Prasad denied the Congress allegations and called Mr Gandhi's allegations against industrialist Gautam Adani "baseless". "Rahul Gandhi is a habitual liar. He diverted from the real issue. He should have thought before he spoke. He has right to criticise but not abuse anyone," Mr Prasad said. "Rahul Gandhi thinks the Prime Minister's position was made for him," the BJP leader said. The Adani Group has called the Hindenburg report a "calculated attack" on India, its institutions and growth story, saying the allegations are "nothing but a lie".
