Rural India is the next frontier for the Indian banking sector, but getting there is not going to be easy as private sector banks like ICICI and HDFC Bank have now realized. After an initial spurt in their rural banking business, the private sector banks have seen a stagnation in the their rural portfolio due to the high cost of delivering and recovering these loans.
