The Monsoon Session of Parliament has officially ended, with the House adjourned sine die after passing 15 bills. But, as has become a troubling pattern, this session too was marked by disruptions, adjournments, and bills being passed without debate.
Many would argue that our Members of Parliament have one primary responsibility: to introduce bills, debate them, and pass laws in the interest of the people. And yet, the functioning of this session raises serious concerns.
It costs the country approximately Rs 2.5 lakh per minute to run a Parliament session-public money, taxpayers' money-seemingly going down the drain when Parliament fails to function effectively.
But can we view Parliament's performance solely in monetary terms? Isn't the chaos within its walls a reflection of the state of our politics today?
Who is to blame for the repeated breakdown- the Opposition, or should the government be held equally accountable?
