The Supreme Court is set to examine whether certain provisions of the Special Marriage Act of 1954 - which allows personal records to be available to the public during the 30-day notice period before the marriage - violate the individual's right to privacy. The top court has issued a notice to the centre on this matter after a PIL (public interest litigation) was filed by a law student from Kerala. The petitioner, Nandini Praveen, sought the court's direction to quash certain sections of the act.
