The Dravidar Kazhagam (DK), the parent body of the ruling DMK, today staged an anti-Hindi agitation, calling Home Minister Amit Shah's recent suggestion that Hindi should replace English as a link language between states and the Union Government nothing but Hindi imposition. Speaking to NDTV's Sam Daniel, Mr Veeramani explains why English should remain the link language. The Union Government's idea to impose Hindi he says is a cultural imposition to enforce what he calls "RSS agenda". There are 22 recognised languages in the 8th schedule. Referring to Tamil Nadu's anti-Hindi agitation in the late sixties that catapulted the DMK to power, the Dravidar Kazhagam Chief says Hindi is only an official language and not a link language according to the Constitution.
