The Supreme Court on Friday refused to stay West Bengal government's order granting Rs. 10,000 each to all Durga puja committees in the state. The top court has however, issued a notice to the Mamata Banerjee government and sought a detailed affidavit from it within six weeks. The state government had earlier told the Calcutta High Court that funds being given to the puja committees are in connection with a road safety programme but the petitioner alleged that the money is being "distributed through the police".
