State-sponsored pilgrimage: Shouldn't governments stay out of religion?

The Madhya Pradesh government this week started a new scheme where it will fund pilgrimages by senior citizens at a cost of Rs 36 crore to the exchequer. Earlier this year, the Supreme Court ordered the Centre to scrap the Haj subsidy in 10 years, saying the money could be used for the social and educational development of Muslims.
