Zee News's Group Editor Sudhir Chaudhary and Business Head Samir Ahluwalia were sent to two days of police custody earlier this evening after being accused of trying to extort Rs 100 crore from the Jindal group. According to the Jindal group, Mr Chaudhary and Mr Ahluwalia wanted advertisements for their channel worth Rs 100 crore from Naveen Jindal. In exchange, they would drop stories they were doing against the Jindal group on alleged coal block allocation. Zee has termed the arrests unwarranted and have said the police is acting on behest of Congress MP Naveen Jindal. They say it is back to days of emergency and that the freedom of the media is under threat.
