Nawaz Sharif resigned as Prime Minister of Pakistan after the Supreme Court disqualified him from holding public office. The court ruled that corruption cases be filed against Sharif and his children over the Panama Papers scandal. The allegations are that the Sharif family laundered money in 1990s to purchase assets in London. Sharif's resignation has delighted the opposition's Imran Khan, and also strengthened the hand of the military, which Sharif had meekly tried to resist.
