In Haryana, a controversy brewed over the Assembly's invitation to Jain monk Tarun Sagar to give an address. While much of the outrage over his speech is around him doing so in the nude, his comments were even more controversial - on the fact that religion and politics have the relationship of a husband and wife, where "religion must have control over politics like husband has over wife". On The Buck Stops Here, we debate: isn't the monk's statement sexist and misogynist? Is it appropriate to allow religious leaders to address legislative assemblies? Are we seeing the rise of a cultural hegemony in our political and social space?
