Every day there are new instances of the double-standards when it comes to how the law applies to those accused of hate speech or inciting violence. The creators of the vile 'Bulli Bai' app, which conducted fake online auctions of Muslim women was granted bail by a court in Delhi after spending around 80 days in jail. Even though the Supreme Court has said jail is exception but bail is the rule, the problem seems to be the glaring asymmetry in how this principle seems to be applied in the current context. Are those who are seen as critical of the government or of the ideologies of the ruling establishment facing far harsher penalties? Do they end up spending much longer in jail? Here's a Reality Check.
