Even as the Indian government is fire fighting, Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has sparked a new controversy by saying that Goans are "annoyed with the behaviour, attitude and way of life" of Nigerians living in the coastal state. After a spate of attacks on people of African nations across the country, especially in the national capital, African students associations have been in arms, protesting racist ire directed at them. Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj stepped in to assuage fears and met students, after which protests were called off. The government has now ordered the Delhi Police to carry out sensitisation drives in the city. However, are incidents like these reflective of our racist reality?
