Washington: TV mogul Oprah Winfrey was starstruck when she met Beatles legend Paul McCartney at the Kennedy Centre Honours.

Both the singer-songwriter and the talk show host were awarded at the glitzy ceremony for their contribution to arts and culture.

"What it means to me to be able to receive this award alongside Paul McCartney, my heart cannot express what that means to me," said the 57-year-old, adding that she had posters of the Beatles on her wall when she was younger.

The award was to highlight the work she has done over the past 25 years with her talk show, The Oprah Winfrey.

The award is an annual honour given to those in the performing arts for their lifetime of contributions to American culture.

Presiding over 4,400 shows and six films, she has "impacted nearly every aspect of the entertainment world while engaging, inspiring and enriching lives of million", read her Honours citation.
