The Centre has introduced a Bill in the Rajya Sabha on appointment of future chief election commissioner and election commissioners of India. The said Bill proposes a three-member committee led by the Prime Minister and will have the Leader of Opposition and a cabinet minister nominated by the PM. Now this diverges from a March ruling of the Supreme Court, which stated the committee should consist of the PM, the Leader of Opposition and the Chief Justice of India.
