At a time when the BJP defends its model state from the Congress' attempts to usurp it, the political discourse on social media has hit a new low. A week back it was Amit Malviya, the BJP IT cell head, who tweeted pictures of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru with women to suggest he and Hardik Patel were both womanisers. The only problem was that the women in the pictures were Jawaharlal Nehru's sister and niece. Mr Malviya didn't apologise but deleted the tweet. Yesterday, a twitter handle of the Congress' youth wing posted a meme in which British Prime Minister Theresa May was calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi a "Chai Wala". The tweet was deleted, and apologies with excuses were forthcoming. But is this the level of political discourse that people are to consume?
