A PHD student at IIT Madras has been thrashed for participating in a beef festival organised to protest the centre's ban on cattle trade for slaughter. After mob violence in the name of cow protection around the country, is beef the new campus flashpoint? The major bone of contention, the government's new cattle trade rules that effectively ban slaughter, has now been put on hold in Tamil Nadu for a month by a Madras High Court ruling. Is this just a temporary setback or will the government now back down?
