The National Highway 10, which has been washed away by a swollen Teesta River, is a very important road in the region but is also extremely vulnerable to constant floods. "There needs to be an alternative to the NH 10 and I think, the government is looking into it," said Gorkhaland Territorial Administration Chairman Anit Thapa. "Over 5,000 people have been affected and early 95 houses have collapsed. There is no connectivity. The hospital too has collapsed. It will take time to rehabilitate the people. I will have to locate land to rebuild the homes and talk to the government. Mamata Banerjee is also very worried," he added.
