On the day when this successor was to be selected in Bangalore, the Chief Minister of Karnataka proved why he could be so tough to replace. 75 of his party's 120 MLAs were joined by 15 BJP MPs in declaring that Mr Yeddyurappa should stay in office, despite his indictment for corruption in a report on illegal mining.
