In a major move to promote multilingual education in the country, 22 Indian languages will now be the medium of instruction in Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) schools across the country. Till now, the mediums of instruction in CBSE schools were English and Hindi. "It is an important step in accordance with National Education Policy 2020. This policy is like the DNA of what India's education of the future society is going to be. It clearly says children learn best in their mother tongue, their local language. And till Class 5 or 8, children should be taught in local languages. NCERT wil bring out books in all 22 languages and they would be avaialble in digital form as well," said Secretary School Education and Literacy Sanjay Singh.
