Sudden rain caused the stampede at Kochi University on Saturday, said DR Baby, the director of students' services and a syndicate member of Cochin University. "We had informed the police. Some policemen were there at the beginning. Because of the downpour, the stampede happened. We are preparing a report to avoid such incidents in the future," he said.
